This is a modest free-standing building located in the rear garden of the artists house. The form and roof of the building is a response to retain an existing pear tree in the garden. The butterfly roof swoops below a drooping bough of the tree and the whole building floats above the ground on pads to protect the roots. The studio is a great success because it carefully blends that feeling of exquisite craftsmanship with honest functional space.
